SPEC 5878 - Re-Open a GL Period

Description: Adds the option Reopen General Ledger Period to the green screen GL menu.

Reason for Change:Provides a way to re-open GL periods to capture missed transactions.

When the option is selected, you are prompted to enter a GL period.

System Process

• The system checks the status code for the entered posting period.
• If the month status code is not Closed, then the period is not valid for this process and a message is displayed.
• If the month status code is Closed, then check each subsequent posting period until a posting period is found where the month status code is not C.
• If the posting period found is 1 greater than the requested period then allow reopening of the requested posting period.
• If the posting period found is more than 1 greater than the requested posting period a message is displayed saying that all subsequent posting periods must be reopened in descending order. This means that if any posting periods after the requested posting period are open then you have to go through the process of reopening the posting periods that are closed subsequent to the one being requested. You must do this starting with the latest posting period that is closed.

For example, if posting period 1902 is requested and it is determined that posting periods 1903 and 1904 have also been closed then you will have to reopen 1904 and then 1903 before they can reopen 1902.
