AS/400 Commands

The following are AS/400 commands that you might need when working with the Dancik software. This list is not all-inclusive.

Function

Work Management Commands

WRKACTJOB

Displays listing of all user interface jobs active in the system at the time the command is issued. Can also be used as performance tool.

WRKUSRJOB

Work with all jobs for a particular user. Using F4 after keying in this command will allow you to specify further details about the command (user, type of jobs, etc.)

WRKSBS

Look at all currently active subsystems.

This list at a minimum should include:

  • QBATCH

  • QINTER

  • QSPL

  • QCMN

  • QCTL

TCP/IP Subsystems include:

  • QSYSWRK

  • QSERVER

WRKJOBQ

Displays all job queues on the system, and the number of jobs in the queues. Specifying the name of a particular job queue after the command displays the contents of the job queue.  (WRKJOBQ QBATCH)

STRSBS

Starts a particular subsystem on the system.

STRSBS QINTER starts the interactive subsystem that all users sign in to.

ENDSBS

Ends a particular subsystem on the system. ENDSBS QBATCH ends the batch subsystem where jobs (report and update types) are submitted to run.

DSPMSG QSYSOPR

Displays all messages in the QSYSOPR message queue. All messages relating to job errors, communications failures, and system problems are directed to this message queue.

DSPLOG

Displays the history log. The history log contains past information that was contained in the QSYSOPR message queue, plus other system related data.

DSPJOB

Displays a particular job. If used alone, it views the current job. Can be prompted (F4) and have specific job information keyed in to view other jobs on the system.

PWRDWNSYS

Power the system off. USE F4 IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS COMMAND, NEVER PRESS ENTER RIGHT AWAY.   Change option to restart after power down to Y unless specifically directed otherwise.

WRKSYSVAL QIPLDATTIM

Checks Date/Time of automatic IPL.

Communications / Device Commands:

WRKLIND

Work with Line Description allows modification, create or delete of a communications line. Pressing F14 will show configuration status. Keying in a specific line after the command will show only that one line.

WRKCTLD

Work with Controller Description allows modification, create or delete of a communications controller. Pressing F14 will show configuration status. Keying in a specific controller after the command will show only that one controller.

WRKDEVD

Work with Device Description allows modification, create or delete of a communications device. Pressing F14 will show configuration status. Keying in a specific device after the command will show only that one device,

WRKCFGSTS *LIN

Shows the configuration status of all lines.

WRKCFGSTS *CTL

Shows the configuration status of all controllers.

WRKCFGSTS *DEV

Shows the configuration status of all devices.

ENDTCP

Ends TCP/IP on the AS/400.

STRTCP

Starts TCP/IP on the AS/400.

STRHOSTSVR

Starts host servers for client access. Press F4 instead of pressing enter to specify types of servers to start.

CHGPWD

Changes passwords.

Backup / Restore Commands:

GO SAVE

Go to the main save menu. Option 21 from this menu performs a full, restricted save of the system.

SAVLIB

Saves an individual library.

SAVOBJ

Saves an individual object.

GO BACKUP

Starts the menu for the backup assistant on the AS/400

RSTLIB

Restores a particular library or libraries.

RSTOBJ

Restores a particular object or objects.

SAVDLO

Saves document library objects from the system.

RSTDLO

Restores document library objects from the system.

SAV

Saves the AS/400 integrated file system.

RST

Restores the AS/400 integrated file system.

Security Commands:

WRKUSRPRF

Work with user profiles.

CHGUSRPRF

Change a user profile.

CRTUSRPRF

Create a user profile.

WRKOBJ

Work with objects.

WRKDIRE

Work with directory entries.

Spooled File / Output Queue Commands

WRKOUTQ

Work with output queues. Specifying a particular output queue after the command will show the contents of the output queue.

CHGOUTQ

Change output queues. This command is used to change functionality on an output queue
